Portal

“The Portal” designed as a physical embodiment of Afro-Futurism is made from 1/2” Steel and Dichroic Acrylic. Standing at 13ft. tall the Portal bridges the gap between past and present. UVIR Studio's lighting design transformed the Atrium of the Richmond Contemporary Art Museum for BLK Runways Inaugural Fashion Show. Addressable LED fixtures lit the Atrium, morphing and blending colors in tandem. The lighting palette took reference from the dichroic film that lined the outer plates of “The Portal”.  Magnetically fastened LEDS lined the inside of “The Portal”, a pulse of light beamed down on the models as they passed through the installation.

This gift from UVIR Studio to VCU student-led BLK Runway serves as a beacon, inspiring new horizons and embracing the boundless possibilities that lie ahead.
